How to Watch

Racing is held off the Ninepins, eight nautical miles south-east of Pak Sa Wan, so the closest view is from the water. Spectator boats run on Monday 23 and Friday 27 November, from Kellett Island to Sai Kung, leaving at 09:30 and back before 16:30, at HK$750 a person. Both are listed in the calendar below.

Practical Information

From the airportAirport Express · taxi · Uber · car

Hong Kong International Airport is one of the world’s best connected. Getting into the city is quick and easy at any hour:

Airport Express: trains every 10 to 12 minutes reach Hong Kong Station in about 24 minutes. Free shuttle buses link the Hong Kong and Kowloon stations to most major hotels.
Taxi: the rank is right outside arrivals; allow roughly 40 minutes to Central. Red taxis serve the main urban areas.
Uber: available across Hong Kong and the airport. Follow the app’s pick-up instructions rather than the taxi rank, and expect to pay a little more than a red taxi.
Pre-booked car: hotels and car services can meet you in the arrivals hall.

Getting to the racingRHKYC · Clearwater Bay

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club clubhouse sits on Kellett Island in Causeway Bay, a few minutes' walk from Causeway Bay MTR or a short taxi from most Island hotels.

Clearwater Bay is out in Sai Kung with no MTR nearby, so allow about 35 to 50 minutes by taxi or car from Central, longer in peak traffic. We will share the daily shuttle bus details closer to the event.

Visiting membership of the ClubCompetitors, partners & crew

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club offers visiting membership to overseas competitors and to their partners and crew members. The Club is cash-free, so an account is what lets you pay for anything at Kellett Island, Middle Island or Shelter Cove.

You choose between credit facilities, signed once with a HK$2,000 deposit held on the card, and a pre-stored Octopus Card. Applications must reach the Membership Office by 2 November 2026. Cards are collected from reception at Kellett Island up to 16 November 2026, and from the Regatta Office at Clearwater Bay after that.

Currency & paymentsHKD · Octopus

The Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) is pegged at roughly 7.8 to the US dollar. Cards and mobile payments are accepted almost everywhere, and ATMs are on every block. Keep a little cash for markets, older taxis and small shops.

One Octopus card covers the MTR, buses, trams, the Star Ferry and most convenience stores. Buy one at any MTR station, or add a Smart Octopus to an iPhone and top it up from the phone.

Weather in November18-25°C

One of the best months to visit: dry and comfortable at 18 to 25°C, with a moderate to fresh breeze that makes for excellent racing. Pack light layers, sunglasses and a jacket for the water.

Visas & entryCheck before you fly

Many nationalities enter visa-free for 7 to 180 days, but the rules vary by passport, so always check the Hong Kong Immigration Department before you travel.

Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your stay. Entry rules to and from mainland China are separate: a trip across the border needs its own visa.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance covering medical care is strongly recommended. Check that it also covers time on the water and any watersports you plan around the regatta.

Racing cover is a separate thing entirely. Every boat must carry its own third-party liability insurance, specific to that Dragon, and no travel policy provides it. Proof is checked at registration. The amount required and how to arrange it if you need help are on the For Competitors page.

More Things to Do

Four we would make time for between races.

Sai Kung and the Geopark. The same corner of the New Territories as the marina. Sampans leave the town pier for the Geopark islands, and the seafood restaurants along the waterfront are worth the drive on their own.

The Peak Circle Walk. A little over three kilometres around Victoria Peak on Lugard Road, level the whole way and shaded by bamboo and tropical trees, with the harbour below on one side and Kowloon and the New Territories hills on the other. The Peak Tram climbs to it from Garden Road, a few minutes from Central.

M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Both on the West Kowloon waterfront, a few minutes' walk apart, with the Art Park between them looking straight back at the Island skyline.

The Star Ferry. Ten minutes across the harbour for a few dollars, and still the best way to see it.
