88 Days to Go: Documents, Deadlines and Final Checks
More than 90 boats from 21 nations are now entered against a fleet limit of 100. Here is what to have ready, and what closes before you travel.
This is a competitor briefing: everything below is for teams entered in the championship.
On 21 November, 88 days from today, the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Marina opens for registration and measurement, and the first Dragon World Championship held in Asia begins. From here, most of what stands between a boat and the start line is paperwork and freight, and both take longer than they look.
Two minutes, today
Your entry can be reopened at any time. Go to Find my entry, follow the prompts, and you can correct your crew list, your details and the documents held against your boat. The four items in the next section can all be uploaded there ahead of time, though you'll still need to bring the originals in November.
While you're there, upload your measurement certificate and insurance document so they're on file ahead of time, and make sure every crew member's T-shirt size and emergency contact are filled in too.

Measurement and registration run at the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Marina on 21 and 22 November, 09:00 to 17:30. Four things are checked at the Technical Committee Desk at your registered inspection time:
- Your valid measurement certificate.
- Your insurance document. At least HK$5 million of third-party liability cover per incident, or the figure in the Notice of Race if that is higher. Proof is checked at registration.
- Your sail measurement form, listing the sails you are declaring.
- Photo identification, needed for both registration and the weigh-in.
Once measurement signs a boat off, the crew go on to the regatta office for final registration and the weigh-in. If you need cover for Hong Kong waters, send your boat’s details through the insurance form on the For Competitors page and Ken Wong will come back with local options.
Deadlines that matter before you sail
- Shipping from Europe, now. Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Felixstowe, Fos-sur-Mer, Valencia and Genoa run 30 to 45 days to Hong Kong, before loading and customs. The subsidised group container has closed, but independent shipping can still be arranged through Central Oceans. Talk to Bram van Olphen about timing.
- Charter boats, now. Only 7 are left, out of 20 on offer, from US$3,500 to US$12,000 depending on the boat’s age and the length of the charter. They go in the order they are asked for.
- Entries close, 30 September. Entries, including the entry fee, must be received prior to this date.
- North Sails discount ends, 30 September. 15% off One Design orders until the end of September, subject to stock, with delivery to the venue for teams who order early. Order through Isamu Sakai at North Sails Hong Kong.
- RHKYC visiting membership, 2 November. Your application must reach the Membership Office by this date. The Club is cash-free, so you need an account to use Kellett Island, Middle Island and Shelter Cove. Your card is waiting at registration, and the detail is here, or apply online.
- Support boats, 22 November. Every coach and support RIB must be entered and paid for online by then. The fee is HK$2,500, which covers slipway access and marina berthing, and each vessel needs its own third-party cover and its MNA three-letter code on display. More on support boats.

The week ashore, in outline
The social programme is now published day by day: 33 events across ten days, from the Asia Pacific Championship opening on 18 November through to the closing dinner on the 29th. Ceremonies and prizegivings, and alongside them a run of optional outings for partners, crew and anyone travelling with you.
- 18 November. Skippers’ briefing and opening ceremony for the Asia Pacific Championship, Kellett Island.
- 22 November. Skippers’ briefing, opening ceremony and reception for the World Championship, Kellett Island.
- Most race days. After sailing drinks and the day’s prizes at Clearwater Bay, hosted in turn by Code Zero, SHK Capital Partners and Lee Kum Kee.
- 25 November. The championship gala dinner at Crystal Court, Hopewell Hotel, presented by Hopewell.
- 29 November. Prizegiving dinner and closing ceremony at Clearwater Bay, presented by Sun Hung Kai & Co.
- Through the week. Spectator boats out to the racecourse, Lee Kum Kee cooking classes, night food tours in Causeway Bay and Kowloon, the Dragon’s Back hike, Sai Kung Geopark and Lantau. Optional outings run from HK$300 to HK$1,500 per person.
All of it is provisional and none of it is bookable yet. Every date, time, venue and price can still change, and we will write again as each event is confirmed. In the meantime you can tick the ones you like on the For Visitors page and send them straight to your own calendar.
