Official App Launches for the 2027 Hong Kong Dragon World Championship

The free companion app for both November championships is now on the App Store and Google Play, with marine weather, schedules, results and official notices.
The official companion app for the 2027 Hong Kong Dragon World Championship is now available free on the App Store and Google Play, ahead of a Hong Kong season that puts two international Dragon regattas back to back in November 2026.
The Dragon Class Asia Pacific Championship 2026 runs 17 to 21 November, and the 2027 Hong Kong Dragon World Championship presented by Sun Hung Kai & Co. follows immediately, 21 to 29 November. The championship is organised by the Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China, the International Dragon Association, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the Hong Kong Dragon Association, with racing off the Ninepins out of the Host Partner Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club’s Marina.
The app covers both events from a single install. Competitors switch between them in the app, and the schedule, results, notices and venue information follow whichever event is selected.
Built around the race office, not around a feed
The app’s design assumption is that a sailor checks a phone between races, on a boat, on a bad connection, so the feature set is deliberately narrow:
- Marine weather at the race venue: wind speed, direction and gusts, tide times, sea state, and multi-day forecasts for planning the week
- Live schedules and results, including schedule changes pushed from the race office
- Official notices: Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions and Notices to Competitors, delivered as they are posted
- Venue maps and sailing course information across the Kellett Island, Middle Island and Clearwater Bay sites
- Push notifications for race updates, notices and weather alerts
- Event sponsor information and services for competitors ashore
There is no social feed, no in-app purchase and no paid tier. Results and official documents are drawn from the event’s own systems rather than re-entered, so what the app shows is what the race office published.
That restraint is deliberate, according to Kevin Denney, who built the app and races Dragons in Hong Kong.
“Most event apps are designed for the organiser and then handed to the sailor. We built this the other way round. A sailor checks a phone between races, on a boat, on a bad connection, so the app does a small number of things and gets out of the way. If it isn’t useful in those ten seconds, it shouldn’t be in there.”
